Want to kill a games journalist in Assassin’s Creed Revelations? Look for this symbol

If you’ve read our preview earlier today on Assassin’s Creed Revelation’s multiplayer action, then you already know that the game will feature some fairly deep customization options, including customizable emblems you can use to decorate your in-game avatars. What you probably didn’t know, however, was that one of those emblems – an eagle head atop a shield – will be available only to members of the press. What’s this mean for you? Bragging rights, of course.

Be sharp-eyed enough to spot the eagle on another player, and you’ll know you’ve spotted someone who writes about games for a living, whether it’s obvious from their gamertag or not. With their cover blown, it would almost be wrong to not stab their characters to death in the street, whether it’s for a particularly egregious review score, a misguided desire to test your skills against a “professional gamer” or simply a friendly cold-steel hello.

Sadly, you won’t get an Achievement or Trophy for the deed – so far as we know, anyway – but you can be secure in the knowledge that, just for a second, you made us or one of our colleagues scowl in momentary frustration before respawning. And isn’t that worth keeping an eye out?

After graduating from college in 2000 with a BA in journalism, I worked for five years as a copy editor, page designer and videogame-review columnist at a couple of mid-sized newspapers you've never heard of. My column eventually got me a freelancing gig with GMR magazine, which folded a few months later. I was hired on full-time by GamesRadar in late 2005, and have since been paid actual money to write silly articles about lovable blobs.
