Heavy Weapon is so full of testosterone, you’d think it was an 80s cartoon from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Using the left stick to move and the right stick to aim and fire, you progress your atomic tank through 19 side-scrolling levels, destroying hoards of planes, helicopters, and anything else in your way. Upgrades such as lasers and homing missiles are available after each level. As well as the main campaign and online co-op, there are two other game modes; ‘Survival’ times how long you last against a constant wave of enemies, and ‘Boss Blitz’ pits you against every boss consecutively.
Heavy Weapon is essentially good at what it does. Unfortunately, though, it only does one thing, and that soon gets repetitive. The different game modes and satirical caricatures offer some reprieve, and there’s fun to be had here, but considering the wealth of fantastic games on PSN right now, this is somewhat hard to recommend.
