Transformers prequel could be on the way

Earlier this year we heard that Paramount had assembled a "writer's room" of scribes to thrash out the future of the franchise, and two more names have now been added to that group in the form of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. And apparently, the project they will be working on is a new Transformers prequel…

According to Deadline, the project in question is being referred to as Transformers One, with the report describing the synopsis as "more or less an origin story that takes place on Cybertron". Intriguingly it has yet to be decided whether the film will be live-action or an animated adventure.

Barrer and Ferrari were recently hired by Marvel to give the Ant-Man script a final once-over, after Adam McKay's rewrites to Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish's original screenplay. They won't be credited on that film, but it clearly hasn't hurt in terms of getting them in the shop window. No official confirmation has been supplied from Paramount as to their Transformers plans, but expect that to change in due course...
