Captain Toad finally has an amiibo, and it's all thanks to Super Mario Bros Wonder Switch 2 Edition
The Super Mario Wonder amiibo launch March 26
We've barely into 2026, and already there's brand new amiibo coming our way. As someone who owns over 100 of the things, I'm not complaining, especially as these new Super Mario Wonder amiibo figures are some of the most adorable I've seen yet.
The upcoming Switch 2 accessories will launch on March 26 and feature collectibles of Elephant Mario trying to get his cute butt out of a warp pipe, the adorable Poplin & Prince Florian, and finally, Prince Florian and Captain Toad in what is his first-ever amiibo figure to date.

Unveiled via the Nintendo Today app and the official X (Twitter) Nintendo of America page, the new amiibo are some of the cutest yet. I've already got my Super Mario Galaxy amiibo pre-orders secured for later in the year, but Captain Toad's little first pump pose is so hard to resist. I might have to delve back into my savings to snatch him and the rest of the trio up as soon as pre-orders go live.
Especially as Captain Toad has never been represented in amiibo form before. Despite it being 12 years since Captain Toad Treasure Tracker first launched on the Nintendo WiiU in 2014, and since the game's subsequent relaunch on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, the adventurous version of Toad has never had an amiibo to call his own.
It's not just Toad that has me clamouring for these upcoming collectibles. Elephant Mario is one of the most hilarious characters I've seen represented in the NFC-integrated toys. Just like in the game, in his elephant form, he's trying desperately to squeeze himself out of the warp pipe in what is the most relatable pose I've seen in amiibo history. It's okay, Mario, I feel your pain each and every time I try to squeeze into a pair of skinny jeans.
Nintendo stated on its social media post that tapping Elephant Mario, Poplin & Prince Florian, and Captain Toad and Talking Flower on the right Switch 2 Joy-Con will "get power-up items in courses."
They didn't get into any pricing information during the short 5-minute Super Mario Bros Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park YouTube video. However, Ninty did at least state on its X (Twitter) post that you can use these with the upcoming Switch 2 Edition of the game, and the original Super Mario Bros. Wonder if you're still sticking with the original handheld.
That's a pretty neat addition if you're a collector who wants to save by not grabbing the new version or its Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. However, given that the Super Mario Galaxy amiibo pre-orders were a hefty $39.99 at Best Buy and via the official Nintendo store, I'd still expect to pay a fair few coins once pre-orders do go live.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
Until the Super Mario Bros Wonder amiibo pre-orders are up and I share those details with you, you can at least grab Talking Flower as his own separate toy instead. He's available to pre-purchase for $34.99 at Nintendo US, should you want to hear his incessant chatting outside of the game.

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
