Simon Kinberg to oversee Foxs Marvel projects

Simon Kinberg will become the new curator of Fox’s Marvel properties, after the writer/producer signed a three-year first-look deal that will see him expand the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes.

It was only last year that Fox brought Mark Millar on board to perform a similar role, but it seems Kinberg’s brief will be a little more focused on those two franchises.

“I have a lot of ideas on how to build those brands,” says Kinberg, “and do what everybody is thinking of these days: be like Marvel. I want to be able to build stories over multiple movies.”

The first indicator of how that might play out came with this morning’s announcement that X-Men: Apocalypse will arrive in 2016, while Kinberg will also be likely to be involved in the development of James Mangold’s Wolverine sequel.

Could we eventually start to see crossovers between Fox’s various Marvel properties? It certainly looks that way. Wolverine and The Thing, together at last…
