Russo brothers in line to direct Avengers 3 & 4?

The news broke only yesterday that Iron Man would be joining Captain America 3 as part of the Civil War storyline, and the repercussions for the rest of the Marvel universe are already being speculated on.

According to Badass Digest , Marvel is keen to appoint the Russo brothers as directors of The Avengers 3 and possibly 4 , with a view to establishing a coherent through-line across its future films.

Having delivered at the box office with Winter Soldier , the Russos are already in place to direct Captain America 3 , and with the events of that film likely to set up a whole new narrative arc, it makes sense that the studio might have its eye on them to pick up the baton from Joss Whedon.

The Civil War storyline focuses upon a divisive piece of government legislation that demands the registration and service of anyone possessing super-powers. Cap and Iron Man come down on either side of the fence, leading to all out war between our two heroes.

Captain America 3 is scheduled to land in the UK on 29 April 2016, which is expected to be followed by The Avengers 3 further down the track in 2018. The road to Phase 3 begins here…
