Marvel vs Capcom 3 Character Strategy Guide

So you picked up MvC3 and you’re wondering “Who should I play?” Answer: Whoever you like. While, over time, certain characters might prove themselves to be better than others, *cough* Sentinel *cough* the game is still new and everyone should be more focused on having fun and learning rather than waiting for a tier list. We’ve compiled a quick and dirty list for players looking to try out some characters and get a feel for who they want to main.

We’ve included a quick rundown on the basics for each character, their strengths and weaknesses, and how difficult they are to use. Complicated technical characters with difficult inputs and situational assists are obviously less desirable to newbies than quick to understand characters, even if the technical ones may be better at a professional level.

Basic Terms

QCF / QCB: Quarter Circle Forward / Back. Also known as a fireball motion, this is performed by presing down, then quickly rolling the stick towards your opponent for a QCF or away from your opponent for a QCB.

HCF / HCB: Half Circle Forward / Back. This motion is performed by quickly rolling the stick from the forward postion to the down position and then to the back position in one fluid motion. Mostly used in MVC3 for special throw moves or command grabs.

Dragon Punch / Reverse Dragon Punch: Sometimes called a Z motion, this is performed by quickly pressing forward before executing a QCF (or back before a QCB for a Reverse Dragon Punch) in one fluid motion. Practice until you get a feel for it.

Point Character:Thecurrent member of your team that is "tagged in". Can also be used to describe the character you use to start the match with.

Assist: When one of your non-point characters is called in to attack. Note that each character has 3 available assist moves to chose from.
