Subnautica 2 roadmap details
Now the Subnautica 2 roadmap has been revealed, we take a look at what's coming to the survival game in early access
Following its incredibly successful launch week, Unknown Worlds has revealed the early access Subnautica 2 roadmap, letting us know what's to come for the survival game - which is especially interesting if, like me, you've already set foot outside the early access boundaries and turned yourself into leviathan food.
Sadly, there are currently no dates or timelines in the Subnautica 2 early access roadmap, but that's no bad thing. We'd rather these updates are rolled out when they're ready instead of being rushed out to meet a deadline, and we're sure we'll get a better idea closer to the time. With that in mind, here's what we do know about the roadmap so far.
Subnautica 2 early access roadmap
This first Subnautica 2 roadmap splits future updates into EA 1.1 and EA 1.2, as well as a larger future content update, more frequent hotfixes, and ongoing improvements. According to the official roadmap announcement, focus is also being put on multiplayer, based on feedback from players in the first few days.
While the larger expansion of the world is not going to arrive until a later update, the first two early access Subnautica 2 patches are set to include heaps of content. The Subnautica 2 EA 1.1 update is going to add a new region, creatures, and resources, and we've got more on that in our dedicated guide to the next update. In the meantime, there are going to be smaller changes focussing on the likes of the Biomod system and Blight encounters.
Improvements to storage and a sprint option should also arrive between now and the first update, while EA 1.2 brings multiplayer changes including voice chat and revival, on top of changes to the HUD and the Subnautica 2 Habitat Builder tool.
More changes can be seen in the infographic above, and I certainly can't wait to see the new biomes and creatures set to arrive in Subnautica 2 during early access, which is currently set to last around two to three years according to a statement on Steam. With all that's to come before then, though, I'm happy to wait.
In the meantime, we can help guide you through everything that's already available in early access, including how to get a Subnautica 2 tadpole for easier exploration, how to craft Subnautica 2 ingots, and how to make the most of Subnautica 2 console commands, as well as a bunch of other Subnautica 2 guides.

After studying Music and Lifestyle journalism and writing a column for a stylish lifestyle magazine in her hometown of Brighton, Danielle finally found her feet writing about videogames for WePC in 2021. She then honed her guides writing skills at PCGamesN between 2022 and 2026, when she took those skills to GamesRadar as a Guides Writer. Danielle's guides are a safe space - she definitely got stuck before you did, which is why she's perfect for the job. When she's not replaying the Silent Hill games or a more up-to-date single-player horror game, you'll find her fighting for her life in Dead by Daylight, tending to a garden in Stardew Valley, or doing both in Minecraft.
