What to expect from the next Subnautica 2 updates
Now that update 1.2 is out, here's what we know is coming to the Subnautica 2 in future updates
The next Subnautica 2 update promises some major additions to the underwater survival game, including a new region, more creatures, and more story content. With updates 1.1. and 1.2 out the way, which offered plenty of improvements and handy new features to the game, the focus now is on expanding Subnautica 2 into a more fleshed out game. While there isn't much to go on, here's what has been confirmed for the next Subnautica 2 update.
Subnautica 2 future update details
Here's what's to come in future Subnautica 2 updates:
- Expanded world with a new region
- New biomes, creatures, and resources
- New tools and a new vehicle
- A new story chapter
It's also safe to assume there will be a whole host of bug fixes and other minor changes that smooth out the experience.
But we unfortunately have no idea when this update may come out. Creative director Anthony Gallegos suggested the major update will arrive "later in the year" in the 1.1 update video, and the Subnautica 2 roadmap doesn't offer any clues either, but at least we know it will be in 2026. Update 1.2 launched just six weeks after update 1.1, so if Unknown Worlds stick to a similar schedule, the first major expansion could arrive in late September or early October.
You may still want to dive into Subnautica 2 now anyway since the 1.2 Buddy System Update came out. It added proximity chat to Subnautica 2 multiplayer, as well as player revives, so it should be much more fun to play with friends.
