How to get the Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator
The Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator are important underwater tools, integral to mining ore and more
Subnautica 2’s Sonic Resonator is an essential tool, handy for taking out large mineral deposits that produce a decent quantity of resources like lead and copper. Once you've cleared the area around the lifepod of natural resources, finding and breaking these larger ores is going to be essential to crafting gear.
To build the Sonic Resonator, you’ll need to first unlock the blueprint before collecting all the essential ingredients to slot into your fabricator back home. There are, naturally, a few hitches that complicate the process, but Subnautica 2 wouldn't be much of a survival game without them. Our guide explains each step to getting the Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator, and we'll also tell you how to upgrade it to a Feedback Resonator when the time comes.
How to unlock the Sonic Resonator in Subnautica 2
You first need to unlock the Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator blueprint to be able to craft the tool, which is done by scanning two Sonic Resonator fragments. Thankfully, there are two inside the abandoned base in the Old Habitat, an area located just 370m north of the lifepod.
Once you arrive at the Old Habitat, go to the rear of the abandoned base to locate the entrance. As you enter the first room of the base, turn directly to your right, and you’ll find the first Sonic Resonator Fragment on a shelf. Scan it and move on to the second room.
In the second room, turn left and look at the floor; there you'll find the second Sonic Resonator Fragment. In the same room as the second resonator fragment, turn around and face the way you came in and you’ll see a Processor - you should scan this, too. You're going to need it to make Subnautica 2 Titanium Ingots, which you'll need to make the Sonic Resonator’s crafting recipe, the full list of ingredients of which are this:
- 1 x Basic Battery (2x Copper, 1x Acidic Raion Pouch)
- 2 x Titanium Ingots (6x Titanium)
- 2 x Lead
- 1 x Wiring Kit (1x Copper Wire, 1x Silver)
How to get the Subnautica 2 Feedback Resonator
At a certain point in the game, you'll need to upgrade your Sonic Resonator to a Feedback Resonator. This enables you to heal the fourth Subnautica 2 Angel Comb. To do so, as you might have guessed, you must first unlock the blueprint by scanning fragments. Here's where you can find them:
- The Cicada Wreck Therapy Room - 200m below, 771m from Alien Ruins, 120 degrees south-southwest
- The glowing cave near the Metal Farm
- Within the Metal Farm
You'll only need to scan two of the Feedback Resonators to unlock the blueprint for yourself, at which point you must also build a Modification Station to turn your existing Sonic Resonator into the upgraded version.
You'll also need two Subnautica 2 Conduit Crystals, which can be tough to find, but you should be able to pick some up when you're scanning Feedback Resonators.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
If you're struggling to find any of the other resources above, you might be intersted in our guides on getting Subnautica 2 lead, which is probably the hardest item to find when crafting the Sonic Resonator, and Enameled Glass, which you'll need for the upgrade.
While you'll get the most use out of the Sonic Resonator when clearing those huge ores, the tool is also key to part of the story. You'll need these Resonators when obtaining Subnautica 2 adaptations, including the all-important Heat Tolerance Adaptation. You could say it’s a real jackhammer of all trades. Puns aside, if you want to progress through the Subnautica 2 campaign and expand your underwater base, the Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator are key to your success.
