How to get the Rebreather in Subnautica 2
The Subnautica 2 Rebreather is an important survival item, and you need to know exactly where to look to unlock it
Just like in the first game, the Subnautica 2 Rebreather allows you to breath for longer in deeper waters. Once you've crafted your fins and first oxygen tank, you need to start thinking about more sophisticated diving tools, and the rebreather is certainly one of them.
To unlock the blueprint, you need to take your scanner to a specific location where you'll find an old rebreather lying around. While you can use that one, simply scan it to unlock the blueprint to make your own. Here's where to find that old rebreather in Subnautica 2, and what you'll need to craft one.
Subnautica 2 Rebreather location
Unlike some other craftable items, the rebreather only needs to be scanned once to unlock the blueprint. To get the Rebreather, head to the Colonist Bunker (Unauthorized NoA Modification) at about 88 meters below, 400 meters southwest of your lifepod.
To find it, head southwest from your lifepod, then turn around when you see a wreckage in front of you, around 80m below the surface. The bunker is built into a cave wall, and you can swim right in.
Inside the bunker, you'll find a lot of useful items to scan, including a Tadpole fragment and a power storage fragment, both of which are essential when you have the capacity to build them. In the meantime, though, the rebreather can be unlocked immediately inside this bunker, so pick up the following materials on your way back to base:
- 8x Fibrous Pulp
- 2x Cysts
- 2x Quartz
- 2x Copper
- 2x Silver
The actual recipe for a Rebreather is just 2 Fiber Mesh and a System Chip, but these are all the ingredients you'll need to craft those items. You'll also need a fully functioning Subnautica 2 fabricator and a Processor. If you're struggling to find any of the resources listed above, we've got guides on finding Subnautica 2 silver, Necrolei Cysts, and Fibrous Pulp, while the others can be found easily around your lifepod.

She then honed her guides writing skills at PCGamesN between 2022 and 2026, when she took those skills to GamesRadar as a Guides Writer. Danielle's guides are a safe space - she definitely got stuck before you did, which is why she's perfect for the job. When she's not replaying the Silent Hill games or a more up-to-date single-player horror game, you'll find her fighting for her life in Dead by Daylight, tending to a garden in Stardew Valley, or doing both in Minecraft.
