For the inaugural meeting of the RPG Club, we're going to see how well a no-weapon run of Baldur's Gate 3 holds together

There are few things in entertainment like getting completely lost in a great role-playing game. One minute you're setting out to save the world, and the next you've spent five hours exploring hidden caverns, romancing unassuming companions, tweaking your character cosmetics, or convincing yourself that the next piece of loot that you find will be worth the encumbrance cost. RPGs are sprawling, surprising, and wonderfully personal – which is exactly why we love them, and we suspect that you do too.
RPGs are also some of the best video games to talk about.
Welcome to the RPG Club, a month-long adventure through one unforgettable role-playing game. Over the next four weeks, we'll be playing Baldur's Gate 3 together, tackling the story in weekly chapters and comparing notes along the way. As we document the trials and tribulations that shape our journey back into Larian Games' iconic adventure, we invite you to jump into the conversation with your own triumphs, mishaps, and the memories forged in the Forgotten Realms.
Below you'll find your Quest Log, which explains the rules for this month's playthrough, should you want to join in this adventure. But even with shared objectives, we know that no two RPG sessions are ever the same. Maybe you solved a quest in a way we never considered, or found a secret that completely changed the way you survived a scenario. That's the magic of the RPG genre: Every choice matters, and every player ends up with a tale worth telling. We want to hear yours.
Whether this is your first time with Baldur's Gate 3 or your eighth with an entirely new build, RPG Club is your place to celebrate everything that makes these games and this genre so special. Gather your party, stock up on supplies, and get ready to share your stories around the RPG Club campfire. After all, the best adventures only get better when you've got people to share them with.
The RPG Club is Member Exclusive, and signing up is completely free. Joining the GamesRadar+ Community will let you earn badges for reading articles, give you the ability to leave comments, and unlock special member exclusive articles – like all of our RPG Club content.
Quest Log
1. Weapons-Free
No melee or ranged weapons. If you can hold it in your hand and hurt someone with it, it's a no.
2. Lighten Up
Torches may be used, but only to light dark areas or combat shadow curse. Swap 'em before combat begins.
3. Be Kind
Sometimes you need to respec your character – we all make mistakes. But only once per Act, deal?
4. Safety First
Shields can be equipped but only to buff armor class, not as secret melee weapons.
RPG Club: Baldur's Gate 3 (August 2026)
In our first RPG Club meeting, we'll explore the challenge of character and party creation when faced with the daunting challenge of a no-weapons run. This will give us all an opportunity to explore Act One together, and discuss early game friction that's generated by having to put down our swords.
COMING: August 7, 2026
For the second meeting of the RPG Club, you'll want to be ready to venture into Act Two. This week we'll be looking at how a no-weapons run of Baldur's Gate 3 impacts narrative progression and character choices – so bring your best stories, because we want to hear all about your early game wins, woes, and challenges.
COMING: August 14, 2026
For week three we are heading into Act Three. As the challenge of combat increases under pressure of fixed story events, this will be a good opportunity for us to take a breather and really dig into how adaptive Larian actually made this RPG. Here's your chance to talk all things combat!
COMING: August 21, 2026
In the final week this month's RPG Club, we'll dive deeper into Act Three and examine how a weapons-free run restricts our choices in the grand finale. This will be a great opportunity for us to reflect on our experience together, and discuss the highs and lows of no-weapon runs.
COMING: August 28, 2026
