Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now the most-awarded Game of the Year of all time, having overtaken a massive record previously held by FromSoftware's open-world behemoth Elden Ring.
ResetEra user Angie has been keeping track of all of the 2025 Game of the Year awards, including those from major awards shows like The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards, as well as gaming-focused media outlets (including us!), their readers' choice awards if applicable, and podcasts. Per the eligibility guidelines outlined on ResetEra, amongst a few other rules, GOTY awards from "websites, magazines, newspapers, radio, TV broadcasts, podcasts, industry ceremonies, and online entertainment companies" are counted if they've been running for at least a year, have more than one staff member, and don't primarily focus on a single platform.
Needless to say, there's quite a lot to add up, and the latest count (updated yesterday) puts French JRPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at 436 GOTY wins. The forum is already aware of other upcoming awards shows – including the BAFTA Game Awards and GDC Awards – that could see that number increase even further, but even as it stands, Sandfall Interactive's debut project has already overtaken the previously recorded record held by Elden Ring.
As of February 2024, ResetEra had recorded Elden Ring's total number of GOTY wins as 429 – there was a typo in this year's thread that previously had this down as 435, but this has since been amended. Either way, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now come out on top, having already smashed past the number of wins for The Last of Us Part 2, Baldur's Gate 3, The Witcher 3, and, well, seemingly every other game that's ever existed. That's no small feat.
How long will Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 be able to hold this record, though? That remains to be seen – obviously, 2026 is set to be a massive year for games, with GTA 6 looming on the horizon. It's an enormous number to beat though, and again, there's a good chance it could go even higher yet.

I'm GamesRadar+'s Deputy News Editor, working alongside the rest of the news team to deliver cool gaming stories that we love. After spending more hours than I can count filling The University of Sheffield's student newspaper with Pokemon and indie game content, and picking up a degree in Journalism Studies, I started my career at GAMINGbible where I worked as a journalist for over a year and a half. I then became TechRadar Gaming's news writer, where I sourced stories and wrote about all sorts of intriguing topics. In my spare time, you're sure to find me on my Nintendo Switch or PS5 playing through story-driven RPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles and Persona 5 Royal, nuzlocking old Pokemon games, or going for a Victory Royale in Fortnite.
