Gears of War: E-Day is officially sponsoring WWE Triplemania, potentially hinting at a September release date window for the Xbox prequel
Marcus Fenix might be ready in time for the wrestling event
We're just weeks away from chainsaw-gunning through Gears of War: E-Day and taking a look at what's inside, but a new hint at its potential release window comes from the unlikeliest of places.
Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and WWE today announced that its pro wrestling mega-event, Triplemania 2026, will take place over two full days for the first time ever on September 11, at an unannounced location, and September 13 in Mexico City. The event's sponsor? Gears of War: E-Day.

A WWE sponsorship is by no means concrete confirmation that Gears of War: E-Day is definitely coming out in September, but I think it's safe to say marketing will have properly ramped up by then if the flagship Xbox game is going to be plastered across one of the biggest wrestling events of the year.
Xbox Game Studios hasn't said much of anything about the game's release date outside of the fact that, yes, it's coming out in 2026. A dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct will also immediately follow up the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, promising a deep dive on "new details, gameplay and insights." It's possible we learn more about the prequel's launch plans then.
A September launch isn't out of the question, either, however. That gives the iconic series' return enough time to breathe before GTA 6 crashes the party with all the enthusiasm of a meteor greeting the dinosaurs. Xbox also has to juggle Marcus Fenix's origin story alongside release dates for Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Fable reboot, and whatever the next Call of Duty is.
