Evolve's DLC plans include six new hunters, two new monsters

Monster of the week

Monster of the week

Evolve's 4v1 battles pit a team of Hunters against a lone Monster in dangerous maps filled with tons of potential ambush points (and delectable beasts for the monster to chew on). When you add match combinations consisting of the base game's 12 hunters and three monsters on top of that, it's an awful lot to wrap your head around. But why stop there? How about at least two more monsters and six new hunters scattered across pre-order bonuses and DLC packs for good measure?

Don't worry, you can put away your spreadsheet. Instead come with us for a brief tour of Evolve's DLC offerings, and make sure you check back in for future updates both before and after the game's worldwide release on February 10.

Behemoth is a deadly, lava-chucking armadillo

Behemoth is a deadly, lava-chucking armadillo

Evolve's fourth monster is a craggy beast that takes a page from a different sort of Hunter's playbook. Kinda like Samus, the Behemoth can curl up into a ball to roll around the environment at high-speed. He can't drop his signature Lava Bombs from boulder form (guess that would've been too obvious), but he can just roll over fools at high speed and crush the life out of 'em. That's Behemoth's favored method of transport, seeing as he's too huge to jump and is a slow climber. Check him out in the trailer below.

Oh, about those bombs - Behemoth can pitch them at long range, where they'll shatter like mortar shells and spray helpless hunters/delicious creatures with burning lava. He can also summon a tall, semi-circular Rock Wall to either aid in his escape or isolate lone hunters for the slaughter after a long-range Tongue Grab. Last but not least, Behemoth can send out a Fissure to fracture and scald everything in front of him. Behemoth will be available as part of the Monster Expansion Pack, which is a free bonus for pre-ordering Evolve and will be sold separately after release for $14.99. The pack also lets players use the Savage Goliath skin at launch.

The Evolve Hunting Season Pass will add four more hunters to the selection, bringing the total up 16, all for $24.99. The quartet will once again include a representative from each class - Assault, Trapper, Medic, and Support - using their own unique weapons and gadgets to fulfill the same basic role within the hunting party. What exactly those weapons and abilities will be is still up in the air, since developer Turtle Rock hasn't revealed any specifics yet. The characters will also be available for individual purchase for $7.49, in case you only fancy a certain role or two.

The Season Pass also offers three exclusive monster skins which will be available at launch: Magma Goliath, Magma Kraken, and Magma Wraith. If you know you're gonna download it all, you might as well grab the $79.99 Evolve Digital Deluxe Edition and save $10.

Turtle Rock is also offering a deal for PC gamers who want to make sure they get everything Evolve with the $99.99 PC Monster Race Edition. It includes the Monster Expansion Pack and Evolve Hunting Season Pass content, as well as two additional playable hunters and a mysterious fifth monster.

It also offers four limited-time exclusive monster skins, which will be available for general purchase 30 days after launch.

Adapt and survive

Phew! That's all we know about Evolve's post-launch content for now, but it sounds like Turtle Rock and 2K plan to keep new maps and characters flowing into the game for a while. Let us know what else you'd like to see in the comments!

Make sure you check out our breakdown of 8 mistakes you'll make in Evolve (and how to avoid them), and everything else we know about Evolve.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and was formerly a staff writer at GamesRadar.
