The Boys season 5 finale has arrived, and we can't believe it's all over. The final episode of the series, titled 'Blood and Bone,' sees the Boys storm the White House and engage in the final battle against Homelander (and, well, you're just going to have to scroll down to see what happens).

The new episode wraps up seven years of Supes and slaughter, and says goodbye to our favorite heroes. It's not the end end, however, as prequel Vought Rising is set to hit our screens sometime in 2027. And in the meantime, you can always listen to Soldier Boy singing 'Rapture' by Blondie on repeat (I know I am).

Below, we get into the latest episode of The Boys in our spoiler-filled recap, as well as breaking down the usual Easter eggs, cameos, and a round-up of which Supes appeared for the last time.

The final episode of The Boys begins with Kimiko, Butcher, Mother's Milk, Annie, Hughie, and Sister Sage standing around a grave they've dug for Frenchie. Hughie reads aloud from Frenchie's will, which begins with the late Supe admitting that he's seen all of their buttholes and includes a detailed account of when said viewing happened. The will ends with him saying that they've all been through so much together, and that they are truly his family, and directly addresses Kimiko: "For a moment, I knew heaven on earth... In your arms, mon coer."

We cut to Ryan, still living in his secluded cabin, watching an ad for Homelander's impending televised address on Easter Sunday. As the ad ends, Homelander appears and begs to come back, and that he can even have an entire floor of Vought Tower if he wants. Ryan declines, but Homelander tries to explain that everything is different now that he's immortal, and that he and Ryan share the same blood. Ryan rejects him once again, telling him that he is nothing like his father and that having all the power in the world isn't going to make him any less miserable. H flies away dramatically, but not before ominously telling Ryan that he "doesn't understand what's going on... yet."

We cut to the safe house, where Marie Moreau, Jordan Li, and Emma Meyer are chilling with the rest of the Boys. Annie explains to Marie that she, Jordan, and Emma have to save "these people" (who are packed into the back of a truck) and take them up to Canada, where the rest of the Gen V kiddos are hiding. Marie replies that fighting Homelander without an army is essentially a suicide mission, but Annie explains: "It's not about winning... it's about keeping the light burning." They share a tender moment before Jordan, Marie, and Emma head back into the truck and presumably head north.

Cut to the White House, where Ashley is gifting Oh Father a high-tech metal ball gag to celebrate their union. We learn that Oh Father is writing Homelander's important speech, and that he's in utter disbelief that people are actually denying Homelander's godhood. While Oh Father is in the other room, Ashley tries to get her other self to talk and give her advice in manipulating him into flipping on Homelander... but no dice. OF returns and the two clink glasses in celebration.

Sage and Butcher drive back to Frenchie's gravesite, where they find Kimiko sitting on the ground. Rather than offer comfort, Sage goes off on a rant about Frenchie never getting to have his own happiness while he was alive thanks to Kimiko keeping him "as a pet." Still mute, Kimiko builds up her rage and blasts Sage backwards. When Sage stands up, the hyper-intelligent voice in her head is gone. "I'm stupid, like you guys!" she declares.

Back at the safe house, Hughie, Annie, Butcher, Mother's Milk, and Sage assess how much time they have before Homelander's address. They decide that the best plan of action is to break into the White House, using an underground tunnel (that JFK supposedly used to hook up with Marilyn Monroe). Sage announces that Homelander will definitely kill her now that he's aware of her betrayal, and says she'd rather live out her final days at Harry Potter World in Orlando, Florida. She exits, and this is the last we see of Sister Sage.

Cut to the White House: Oh Father is meeting with the world's richest man, and explains to Homelander that they need the support of the rich in order to "build his church" and essentially cement his new position as God. OF also says that they should probably postpone the address to a date later than Easter, so they have more time to prep in case Butcher figures out a way to render him powerless... and then the Deep appears. All of this angers Homelander, who launches the rich man into space (presumably killing him off-camera). He then tells Deep that he's never appreciated him and calls him worthless, but not before announcing that every nonbeliever listening to Homelander's speech needs to be killed "the second the broadcast is over."

Outside of the underground tunnel system, the boys are gearing up with guns and crowbars. Hughie comforts Kimiko and assures her that Sage was wrong, and that she's so much more than just a weapon. Kimiko gets out of the van and joins them in preparing to fight.

The broadcast begins with Homelander sitting behind his desk at the Oval Office, explaining the true meaning of Easter, as well as the revelation he had that led him to believe he was the Second Coming of Christ. He backtracks, saying that he's technically the First Coming, but regardless, it's time for him to "usher the world into a new golden dawn." Ashley and Oh Father are alerted that the Boys have breached the tunnels.

Ashley, refusing to be escorted to safety, runs to the tunnels to save the Boys from the Secret Service. Her other self tells her where to go, and she directs them to the Oval Office. Before reaching the office, they find the Deep sitting alone in a room. Annie says she'll take care of this one, and blasts him through the window. Oh Father bursts through the door and states that he just wants Butcher and "the girl," but Hughie is able to shoot out a smoke detector and lead Oh Father away with a phony Butcher accent.

Annie and Deep crash-land somewhere on a beach. Before the fighting truly begins, she tries to talk him out of backing Homelander and asks him to take some responsibility and consider the concept of finally getting his freedom back. Instead of having some last-minute revelation, Deep blames Annie for ruining his entire life. She blasts him into the ocean... where sharks, dolphins, and various sea creatures immediately swim towards him. An octopus wraps its tentacle around him, strangling him, but not before inserting it anally and pushing it out through his mouth – killing him instantly.

Back at the White House, Oh Father begins to fight Hughie... but not before Mother's Milk puts that ball gag in his mouth, which blows his head clean off. We cut back to Homelander, who can't finish his speech and call the citizens of the world his "loving children." Instead, he directly states that he will kill everyone who decides to disobey him (and we can see Vought security in an auditorium somewhere, making notes of which audience members are giving worried or disapproving looks). Butcher interrupts him by blasting through the wall. "Daddy's home," he says. Kimiko enters the room. An all-out, epic fight begins, with everyone around the world watching the live broadcast.

After a while, no one is winning, and Homelander tries to fly away. Ryan swoops in and knocks Homelander to the ground. Kimiko finally has the chance to zap him of all his power, but she's unable to channel her rage. Suddenly, Frenchie's spirit enters the room and reminds her that the power is not her rage... it's just her and what's in her heart. This allows her to power back up while Ryan and Butcher hold Homelander down. Kimiko blasts him directly in the chest, and everyone is subsequently knocked out.

When (almost) everyone comes to, Homelander tries to use his laser vision... but nothing happens. He tries to fly away, but nothing happens. Butcher begins the process of beating him to death, but Homelander stops him and begins to beg for his life. "You owe me," he pleads, beginning to offer him anything he wants... even suggesting that he could make the shape shifter permanently turn into Becca. "All the times I could've killed you!" Butcher raises the crowbar. "This is for Becca," he says, before using the crowbar to hit Homelander in the forehead and pop his skull clean off. Homelander is dead... and it all happened on live TV. Ryan wakes up and looks over at Butcher with anger in his eyes.

We cut to a live broadcast confirming the death of Homelander, and see Ashley maintain that she will not leave her position as President of the United States... before she's impeached and apprehended by the FBI (because of the whole being illegitimately appointed President by Homelander thing).

Back at the safe house, the Boys celebrate with beers and cigars, and Kimiko has her voice back. Ryan chooses to be alone, which prompts Butcher to assure him that he did the right thing, and that even though their parents are gone, they still have each other. Ryan acknowledges that it's good that Homelander is gone, but that Butcher is still a bad person... and that he doesn't want a "fresh start" with him. He leaves, and this is the last we see of Ryan. To make matters worse, Tara, the dog, is dead. Butcher, angry and alone and defeated, grabs the Supe virus from the drawer and heads to Vought Tower. Luckily, Hughie catches wind of what the hell is going on and sees the empty virus bottle.

Hughie confronts Butcher at Vought Tower, and he demands that he hand over the virus. It's a little late, as the virus has been injected into the sprinkler system with Butcher planning to hit a trigger button that will distribute it to every single floor of Vought Tower... before it ultimately becomes worldwide and airborne. Hughie pleads with him, "We already won." Butcher disagrees, saying a new Homelander could be born at any moment. He goes to set off the virus, but Hughie shoots him point-blank in the chest instead. As Butcher begins to bleed out, he apologizes to Hughie for
"everything I put you through." The two share a soft moment before Butcher dies.

At the cemetery, Hughie, Ryan, Annie, and Mother's Milk gather around Butcher's grave. Hughie says that, even though he wasn't the greatest person, Butcher ultimately made the world a safer place. "He's probably in hell, fighting the Devil," he adds. As they all share their goodbyes, a pan-over to his tombstone reveals that he was buried next to Becca, and that his tombstone says, "Oi, fuck off!"

There's a time-jump, though we're not sure how far ahead into the future we are. Oh Father remarries Monique, and Ryan and Jasmine are present at the wedding (and are now officially siblings!) Kimiko heads to France, with a pet dog, and enjoys a French pastry while smiling off into the distance. Hughie is walking through the city when Bob Singer, who is now President, calls and offers him a job at the White House. Hughie respectfully declines the offer, and walks into a store that says Campbell Audio and Visual. Annie, looking very pregnant, stands behind the counter and tells him all about her morning sickness (and explains that her mother is upset that they aren't married yet). Behind them, a police scanner goes off... because the two are still hunting down bad guys. Before Annie flies away to catch said bad guy, Hughie addresses the baby in her belly and tells her to keep her mother safe. The baby's name? Robin. End of episode.

At the beginning of Homelander's speech, Madelyn Stillwell appears in her weird hallucinated angelic form. Frenchie's spirit appears to Komiko in the middle of the final battle to give her the courage she needs to take him down. Shortly after Homelander dies, Stan Edgar briefly appears on TV to tell the US that he's returning to Vought for a revamp of sorts. The rest of the cameos include Monique and Jasmine Milk, as we explained above, Robert Singer, Marie Moreau, Jordan Li, and Emma Meyer.

As for Easter eggs, perhaps the biggest and most notable is Hughie and Annie deciding to name their baby Robin, after Hughie's girlfriend who died in The Boys season 1.

Homelander died, man. We did it. Below is a round-up of all the deaths that occur in The Boys season 5 episode 8, in order of when they occur. Four major character deaths over the span of an hour isn't the craziest amount... but they were pretty impactful.

  • The Deep – Thrown into the ocean by Starlight and gutted by an octopus tentacle
  • Homelander – Stabbed in the forehead and decapitated by Butcher
  • Oh Father – Head exploded after Mother's Milk uses that weird ball gag Ashley purchased
  • Tara – Hopefully something peaceful like old age
  • Butcher – Shot in the chest by Hughie
