Marvel fans think we will see more of Savage Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day thanks to the new trailer
If Savage Hulk appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel fans think Jean Grey is to blame
The second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is here, finally giving us our first look at the Hulk's return. However, one eagle-eyed Marvel fan thinks we will witness a side to Bruce Banner's hero that we haven't seen in a long time.
"Brand New Day Hulk looks way more like he did in Avengers/Avengers: Age of Ultron than Ragnarok/Infinity War," points out the fan on Reddit. "Did Jean (assuming it is Jean) straight up 'turn off' Banner, leaving only Savage Hulk in control?" Hulk does look a little bigger and meaner than we have seen in recent years. In the trailer, even Tom Holland's Peter Parker remarks, "I didn't know you could get that big."
However, it's not just his appearance that the fan has to back up the theory. "I feel like a big theme of this film will be balance & learning to accept all parts of oneself," said the fan. "The film will show the danger of trying to live in the extreme and neglecting important parts of yourself. Peter tried to be Spider-Man full-time without Peter Parker, and it caused his Man-Spider mutation."
In the most recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, Parker visits Banner, who is now teaching at a university, and asks, "Dr. Banner, you found a way to suppress mutating DNA, right? So, could you get rid of the bad aspects, but keep the good," to which Banner replied, "How would you decide what parts of nature are good or bad?" However, Banner also points out that if Parker ever sees him without his Hulk Inhibitor Device, he'd better run.
With that, we presume that Banner must lose his device at some point in Brand New Day, causing him to turn into Savage Hulk. But the fan thinks Jean Grey (who we think will appear in the movie, played by Stranger Things' Sadie Sink) will be to blame. "Bruce tried to suppress the Hulk, and Jean will show him why he needs Hulk and why Hulk needs Banner," added the fan. "In the comics, we see that Jean turned off Banner, which allowed Hulk to go full savage. Maybe something like that is happening here?"
But there's more. The theory also states that Brand New Day may finally explain the difference between Smart Hulk and the Hulk in Thor Ragnarok. "While not to the level of Smart Hulk, Ragnarok Hulk was far from a rampaging monster. He was intelligent, communicative, emotionally intelligent & easily able to discern friend from foe," added the fan. "That hardly seems like the savage beast we are getting in this film."
We will see how that pans out when Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on July 31. For more, check out our guides to upcoming Marvel movies and how to watch the Marvel movies in order.
