Anime legends Hayao Miyazaki and Hideaki Anno reunite, though it doesn't sound like the Studio Ghibli founder is working on a new movie anytime soon

The kings of anime, Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki and Evangelion's Hideaki Anno, have reunited, and the pictures are most definitely the sweetest thing you'll see today.

Anno's animation studio Khara shared the images on Twitter of Anno and Miyazaki. The post includes a comment from Anno, which explains that a few days ago he visited Miyazaki for the first time in over a year, adding, "Hayao Miyazaki was still energetically drawing his beloved 'pictures' freely as he pleased. What an amazing person." Check out the post below.

Anno says the pictures were taken by a "veteran staff member from the Nausicaä days," referring to the 1984 anime movie Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, in which both of the artists worked on together. Anno adds that in the last image, it was Miyazaki's idea for the pair to take a picture whilst shaking hands just before Anno left. The artist adds, "He's become so serene."

Fans seem to be loving the interaction, with one commenting, "'Let's shake hands' from someone who's turned 85 at the moment of parting carries so many layers of meaning, it just fills my heart to the brim." Another added, "For the history of Japanese animation, there is no meeting room more important than this."

However, we don't think the reunion means that the two will be working on a project together anytime soon. Anno's studio Khara has multiple projects in the pipeline, such as a new Neon Genesis Evangelion series and an untitled Space Battleship Yamato movie. The studio put out a short film in celebration of Evangelion's 30th anniversary.

As for Miyazaki, the 85-year-old has retired multiple times, but seems to be back developing new project ideas at Studio Ghibli. However, from the recent post, it looks as though the artist is enjoying the craft and "drawing his beloved pictures" rather than throwing himself into another movie just yet.
