Jon Bon Jovi joins New Year's Eve

Jon Bon Jovi has signed up for Garry Marshall's romantic comedy, alongside Inglorious Basterds actor Til Schweiger (and everyone else in Hollywood) .

The project was initially proposed as a sequel to 2010 romcom Valentine's Day , but that plan was nixed - presumably due to the hostile critical reception that film recieved.

Like Valentine's Day , the film will follow the lives and loves of a diverse group of New Yorkers as they celebrate the titular date.

Mr. Bon Jovi has been cast as the rock star who encounters his ex, a caterer (Halle Berry) whilst celebrating at a party. We're confident he'll manage to nail the part.

Similar to Valentine's Day , New Year's Eve boasts an impressive ensemble cast - Ashton Kutcher, Rob de Niro, Hilary Swank and Michelle Pfeiffer (pictured below) will star.

American comedian Seth Meyers will take the role of a down-at-heel dad keen to win a cash prize for fathering the first child to be born in the new year; Jessica Biel will play his expecting wife.

Zac Efron, Abigail Breslin, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sienna Miller have also signed up for the project.

We're intrigued to see if Marshall (King of the romcom), will improve upon the formula that earned NYE 's predecessor $213m worldwide.

New Year's Eve will be released on December 9th.
