Success! Vita scoops first and second spots in UK all-formats sales chart

Sony's gorgeous new handheld, the PlayStation Vita, has managed to secure the top two slots in the UK all-formats software chart in its launch weekend. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is officially last week's best-selling game on any platform in the UK (excluding download sales), closely followed by FIFA Football - a game only available on Vita as multiformat FIFA 12 appears in fourth spot as a separate entry.

Above: On me 'ead, son! Uncharted and FIFA were big successes at Vita's UK launch

But if that wasn't worth pats on the back all round, there's an even more heartwarming story - Rayman Origins, boosted by its appearance on Vita, is currently at number 5 in the all-formats chart. Ubisoft said it might be a slow burner, but there's nothing slow about this rise up the charts, having languished at 36 and 32 for the two weeks prior to this. Elsewhere, Vita-exclusive Wipeout 2048 just missed out on a top 10 spot and Syndicate did reasonably well on its debut, picking up 7th position.

Granted, it wasn't a particularly great week for other major releases, as The Last Story on Wii only managed 15th spot and Binary Domain entered at a disappointing 35. But Vita titles did displace UFC Undisputed 3 from the top spot in only its second week on the charts - and that was just with two days' worth of sales compared to UFC's full second week.

We probably should point out that Vita itself had a great first week in Japan and subsequently plummeted down the charts, currently selling fewer units than PSP in that territory, a couple of months after launch. But that's hardware sales, not games. And besides, that trend doesn't have to happen again across the world, right?
