Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the last time we see the original team, says James Gunn

Are we really prepared for a universe without Groot and the gang? Well, you’d better prepare sooner rather than later, as director James Gunn has hinted that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the last time we see the OG Guardians – Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot – team-up together on the big screen. It hurts just thinking about it.

When asked by Screen Rant whether Guardians 3 is truly the end for the galaxy’s motley crew of protectors, Gunn ambiguously stated, “It means it’s the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.”

You could read into that a whole number of ways: it’s the end of Gunn’s Guardians; there’s going to be more members added to fill out the Guardians’ ranks or, Groot forbid, a death to one of the founding members. This all comes after Gunn was confirmed to cap off the tree-logy as writer and director for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

What do you think Gunn means by his Guardians 3 reveal? Let us know in the comments!
