Marvel confirms plot for Luke Cage Netflix show

Hot on the heels of releasing the first Jessica Jones teaser, Marvel TV has confirmed the plot for another of its Netflix shows - Marvel's Luke Cage. Although we already knew some of the details, the new synopsis confirms that the action will be set in Harlem, with our hero attempting to live his life under the radar.

Good luck with that, Luke…

"After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin,” begins the official blurb, “Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”

Meanwhile, Marvel has also announced that 12 Years A Slave star Alfre Woodard has joined the cast as Mariah Dillard, a local politician (and relation of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes) who finds her position threatened by Cage’s emergence.

“Alfre has an incredible, unique, and intimidating presence on screen that makes her perfect as a leader of the Harlem community,” said Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb. “We couldn’t be more excited that an actress as celebrated and talented as Alfre has decided to join us on this adventure.”

With Mike Colter in the title role, Maharsa Ali as the villainous Cottonmouth and Theo Rossi as likely big bad Shades, Marvel's Luke Cage will arrive on Netflix at some point in 2016.

Having said that, we won’t have to wait that long to see Colter in action as Cage is set to make his debut in Marvel's Jessica Jones, which lands on November 20 2015.
