Transformers 5 planned for 2017 as part of expanded universe

Paramount Pictures has big plans for the Transformers franchise. According to Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, not only is the studio planning a fifth film for 2017, it has also established a kind of "brains trust" of writers to develop an expanded universe for many more films to come…

"You may have heard of some writers being hired and we have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers," said Goldner during Hasbro's 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference Call.

"We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie [TF4] to happen in 2017."

It remains unclear whether the next film will retain Michael Bay as director, or whether Paramount will seek to hire a new appointment to take the series in a new direction. In any case, the robots in disguise don't look to be disappearing from our screens any time soon.
