Sony and Marvel screen-testing six actors for Spider-Man

Last month it was widely reported that Asa Butterfield was a shoo-in to play Spider-Man in Sony and Marvel’s forthcoming franchise reboot, but according to THR, a decision has still yet to be made, with the studios’ shortlist still containing the names of six contenders.

Butterfield is still among those names, but according to the report he faces competition from Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, Charlie Rowe and Tom Holland. Only Butterfield and Holland were mentioned in the original casting stories, so clearly the net has been cast a little wider in recent weeks.

According to THR, all of the above have been screen-tested, with the studios set to make a decision very shortly. With the new incarnation of the character scheduled to be introduced in Captain America: Civil War, we’d expect movement on this sooner rather than later…
