Social Network producers sign up for Sex on the Moon

Sony Pictures have picked up the film rights to Ben Mezrich's "Sex on the Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History."

The book will tell the true story of Thad Roberts, a gifted young NASA program insider, who decided to 'liberate' his organization's stash of authentic moon rocks in order to impress his girl and make a fast buck.

He broke into NASA's top security headquarters with his girlfriend and a NASA accomplice, and outwitted security measures to reach Apollo landing lunar samples.

Mezrich researched the crime intensively by examining court records, FBI transcripts, and NASA documents, plus interviewing most of the crime's key players.

Mezrich's first book "The Accidental Billionaires" was adapted by Aaron Sorkin for current awards darling The Social Network .

Network 's producers Scott Rudin, Michael DeLuca and Dana Brunetti are booked for the Moon project. Kevin Spacey will executive produce.

No big names are attached yet, but if they can put The Social Network team back together - with Sorkin writing, Finch directing and Eisenberg starring (and Trent Reznor scoring), it could be the best heist flick in a generation.

The book "Sex On The Moon" will be released in the summer.
