Fantastic Beasts gets a female lead

Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has landed itself a female lead, with Warner Bros. officially announcing the casting of Katherine Waterston in the forthcoming film.

Waterston was one of the standouts in Inherent Vice, and will now be starring opposite Eddie Redmayne's magizoologist, Newt Scamander. She'll play Tina, a witch living in NYC who will cross paths with Scamander on his latest adventure.

Just what that adventure will entail remains filmy under wraps at this stage. However, given that the screenplay has been written by J.K. Rowling herself, we should be in safe hands. Directed by David Yates, with fellow Potter alumni Steve Kloves and David Heyman also present in the production team, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them will open in the UK and US on 18 November 2016.
