Emily Blunt turned down two major Marvel roles

Emily Blunt has revealed she turned down two major roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but has denied that she has been offered the chance to play Captain Marvel.

“No one's offered me that officially,” Blunt told Vulture, when asked about the latter role, “so it's... very unofficial. I think it's fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl [Streep] for it!”

Blunt went on to confirm that she has had concrete offers from Marvel in the past though, having passed on opportunities to play both Black Widow and Peggy Carter.

“It was never the right time, really,” explains the actress, “and it just didn't work out scheduling-wise with those two.”

“It's always a difficult thing to talk about, because it's not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn't the right time.”

Blunt can currently be seen starring in Into The Woods, which is in US cinemas now, and will open in the UK on 9 January 2015.
