Channing Tatum has signed on to star alongside Jonah Hill in the movie version of late '80s TV series 21 Jump Street.
Not only that, but Tatum has also agreed to executive produce the film alongside fellow producer Hill. Which is quite something considering Tatum was all but an unknown just a few years ago.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, 21 Jump Street will see Tatum and Hill working from a script by Michael Bacall, who himself worked from a treatment by Hill.
Just so you know what we’re working with, Hill has in the past referred to the film as an “R-rated, insane, Bad Boys -meets-John Hughes-type movie”.
Jump Street follows a gang of blessedly youthful-looking policemen who infiltrate a high school in order to crack down on teenage crime. It’s the show that featured a young Johnny Depp.
We imagine Tatum is taking on the role once championed by Depp, while Hill will play the overweight copper once portrayed by Peter DeLuise.
