Assassin's Creed Revelations trailer prepares us for Ezio and Altair's swan song

By all rights, Ubisoft's annualization of the Assassin's Creed franchise should have beaten thebrand into a bloody lifeless pulp by now, yet trailers like thisnewest onefrom Gamescom indicate the generations-spanning series keeps getting better, not worse. At least, that's how it appears on the surface. We've been fooled by crisp images and slick editing before, so before our cynical jerk reflexes kick in we invite you to trip out with the latest footage of Ezio, Altair and Desmond carrying on the family business in Assassin's Creed Revelations...

Picking up on the [spoiler alert] shocking and depressing events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Revelations follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the aging star of the last two outings, as he travels to Ottoman Constantinople to dig up secrets left behind by the series' original protagonist, Altair. During their travels, players will uncover seals which will allow them to relive Altair's memories, thereby bringing everyone closer tosolving the mysteriesof the Templars, Assassins and the First Civilization. As always, players will also control Desmond, the modern day assassin-in-training who is reliving Ezio and Altair's memories himself via virtual reality in an effort to stop a global threat. Caught up? Confused? Watch the recently releasedAssassin's Creed Universe videofor a better understanding of the story so far.

Yesterday, Sony announced an entirely new Assassin's Creed game would appear for its upcoming PS Vita system in 2012. Considering Ubisoft has stated Assassin's Creed: Revelations will conclude both Ezio and Altair's story, we can only assume it will take place within the established timeline or introduce the next stabby hero in the assassin line.

Assassin's Creed Revelations is still on track for its November 15th release for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. A specialmultiplater beta eventis scheduled to launch September 3rd for PlayStation Plus and Uplay members.
