Rumor: Monster sequel Pacific Rim 2 "halted indefinitely"

Guillermo del Toro's vision for Pacific Rim 2 may not be realized after all. Since reconciling a few glitches at the start to development, Pacific Rim 2 finally seemed to be on track to commence production later this fall in Toronto.Throw in Guillermo del Toro excitedly chatting about the film's shoot and what types of jaegers and kaiju we could look forward to, and it's safe to say sci-fi fans were cheering the sequel on.

Tucked halfway down a new report from THR is a small reference to the film's stalemate status, saying it's been "halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all)." The site goes on to cite a disagreement between Legendary, the production company making the movie, and Universal, the studio where the production company now calls home.

Tensions are thought to be high due to studio concerns over other big-budget fare like Warcraft, and to cut losses Pacific Rim 2 has been removed from the cinema calendar. Are monsters ever truly defeated, though?
