Tom Cruise to join Highlander reboot?

Summit is reportedly aiming high in its casting search for the forthcoming Highlander reboot, with Tom Cruise thought to be top of the list to take on Sean Connery’s role…

According to The Wrap, the studio has tapped up Cruise regarding the project, although there’s no word as to how those overtones were received by the man himself.

If nothing else, it indicates some fairly lofty ambitions from the studio, which placed visual effects artist Cedric Nicolas-Troyan in the director’s chair just last year.

“I have been working on my pitch for this since the summer,” said the director at the time, “and when I got there I met the original producer, and I just started geeking out and he loved it.”

“You need to provide the answers like the first film did,” he continues. “Who are these guys with swords? Why are they fighting each other? What is the prize and how are they drawn to each other? There is far more at work here I want to explore…”

Signing Cruise would be quite the coup for the first-time director, but it’s good to aim high! At present, Highlander has no official release date, but expect that to change as the casting process hots up…
