The PS5 Slim just took its first ever price cut

In a week where we learned that Sony doesn't think a PS5 price cut will be coming any time soon, the UK has received exactly that. A number of retailers have the PS5 Slim discounted to just £419.99 right now (£60 off the standard £479.99 RRP) and some are even throwing in free games for bundle deals as well. This is the first time we've ever seen the most recent console shaving its launch price tag, and considering it's now just £20 more than the original design's lowest ever price, this is a stunning turn of events.

We'd recommend heading to Currys and Very for the biggest PS5 deals here. Our standout favorite does add a little to the final cost, but nabs you a free copy of Helldivers 2 for a £439 sale price at Very. That's still a £40 saving on the console itself, and a £35 game for nothing. Of course, if you're spending as little as possible you're going all the way down to that £419 position. The same cash can also get you a free DualSense controller when you head to EE, with a free Black model included for just £439 all in

Both Currys and Very have PS5 bundles this cheap right now, with Wreckfest and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 included for free. These are cheaper games, and they're not likely to be at the top of your shopping list - but these packages are more about the console price rather than the additional game value.

You'll find all our favorite PS5 deals from this surprise price cut just below.

Should you buy a PS5 Slim?

The PS5 is in a strong position right now. Xbox is bending its exclusivity rules and bringing some of its first party releases to Sony's platform and, while there aren't too many PlayStation exclusives on the horizon, there are plenty of titles in the catalog that can only be played on the big white console. If Game Pass is winning you over, the PS Plus catalog can scratch that same 'free game' itch - though it isn't quite up to the same caliber as Microsoft's service.

Ultimately, your decision between consoles is going to come down to the games that already exist on the shelves and the controller you want to play with them. Not fussed about Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok or Final Fantasy 7 Remake? Take Microsoft's free games. Want the best controller on the market? PlayStation's the one for you.

We're also rounding up all the best PS5 accessories to get you started, as well as the latest PS Plus deals. If you're going all out on your Sony setup, check out the latest PlayStation Portal stock for a handheld remote play experience.
