SFX #201 PREVIEW: Spielbergs Falling Skies

As well as his TV Jurassic larks with Terra Nova , Spielberg is also producing an alien invasion series for the small screen

Falling Skies is the new alien invasion TV series from Steven Spielberg, starring Noah Wyle ( ER ) and Moon Bloodgood ( Terminator Salvation ) as those among the few who’ve survived a global alien genocide. In issue 201 SFX talks to co-executive producer and lead writer Mark Verheiden ( Battlestar Galactica ) about the series, and here’s a little preview of what you can expect when the issue goes on sale next Wednesday:

“These aliens have a plan, but it’s a slowly unfolding plan so don’t expect an answer in the pilot,” says Verheiden.“ But I think we can be sure that there’s meaning behind what they’re doing, and what they’re doing is very strange.”

Instead the first series concentrates on the human struggle:

“We spent a lot of time in the writers’ room talking about the French Resistance and movies like The Great Escape and Saving Private Ryan . It’s about people who go up against overwhelming odds and find great heroism inside themselves and still hold onto their families. A key note of the show is not losing what made you human, and what are you fighting for?”
