Peter Jackson says he has no interest in directing a Marvel movie

Peter Jackson has revealed he is tired of the franchise-driven world of Hollywood filmmaking, and has no interest in directing a Marvel movie anytime soon.

The director was speaking to Moviefone about his next move, having completed the Hobbit trilogy, and revealed that he plans to make an independent film in New Zealand as his next project…

“I don’t really like the Hollywood blockbuster bandwagon that exists right now,” says Jackson. “The industry and the advent of all the technology, has kind of lost its way. It’s become very franchise driven and superhero driven.”

“I’ve never read a comic book in my life so I’m immediately at a disadvantage and I have no interest in that. So now it’s time for us to step back. We’re heading towards something of that [reduced] scale.”

“I’m not going to head off and do a Marvel film,” continues Jackson. “So if I don’t do a Marvel film, I don’t have any other choice - I’ve got to go make a small New Zealand movie!”

In the meantime, you can still catch what could potentially be Jackson’s farewell to the Hollywood mega-picture, with the final Hobbit film in cinemas now…
