The new trailer for JJ Abrams’ take on Star Trek is finally here. Literally:
Yes, after all the talk of footage screenings and the picture releases, not to mention the shipbuilding teaser, the first full trailer for Star Trek has arrived.
Now we can all get a proper look at moving footage of the new Enterprise crew – including Chris Pine as James Tiberius Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as McCoy and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
“I like this ship. It’s exciting!”
First thoughts… blimey! That was… action-packed. Abrams clearly thinks the way to rejuvenate interest in the franchise is to highlight the wham-bam—Starship-ma’am action in this new trailer.
And, to be honest… it works! It makes the series look fun, fresh and exciting, yet still anchored to a world we recognise as containing Kirk, Spock and co. “I like this ship,” smiles a broadly accented Pegg as Scotty. “It’s exciting!” He’s not wrong.
“Buckle up”
As for all those who would moan about sex in Star Trek – come on, people… Do you know how many times Kirk got laid in the original series? The man’s a machine!
Some of the elements irk – such as if Kirk gets to meet an older Spock, why does he ever worry about the man dying in Wrath Of Khan? But when dealing with quantum time anomalies, who knows what happens when and where? And there is the issue of very generic trailer music.
But all in all, this is a winner. Star Trek heads straight into the top 5 Must-See movies of next year. Buckle up!
