With The Avengers hitting cinemas in just a matter of weeks, Marvel has been careful not to let the ball drop by announcing some new details concerning Captain America 2 .
First and foremost is the fact that the film has a new release date, with Steve Rogers' next adventure arriving in US cinemas on 4 April 2014, a date that had previously been reserved for Untitled Marvel 1 .
The next interesting morsel is the logline released by the studio to accompany the announcement, confirming that the story will keep Cap in his new, modern era.
“The second instalment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers leaves off,” says the blurb, “as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.”
That said, it’s thought that a good deal of the action will also take place in flashback, meaning we’ll still get to see some of the period trappings that were so expertly delivered by the first film.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to make do with The Avengers , who will be assembling in UK cinemas on 26 April 2012.
