How to get chests in Task Bar Hero
Here’s are the basics you need to know about Task Bar Hero chests and loot
Opening Task Bar Hero chests is how you get better gear for your adventuring heroes, but chests aren't that easy to come by. There seem to be several reasons for this, but the main thing is that the strain on Steam's servers that Task Bar Hero has caused means the Chest drop rate appears to have been limited. However, thanks to Runes, there are plenty of ways you can increase your chances of getting these containers of useful gear. Here's everything you need to know about chests in Task Bar Hero.
If you're having trouble with chests getting deleted, not opening, or not appearing at all, the developers have released a hotfix to address the issue that requires you to refresh your in-game mailbox to get chests delivered.
How to farm Task Bar Hero chests
Chests in Task Bar Hero come in three flavors with each dropping from different sources and offering different loot:
- Common Chests: Have a low chance to drop from non-boss monsters and will most likely contain Common (white) gear. While the drop chance is low, you should still get a few of these chests every hour.
- Stage Boss Chests: Have a chance to drop after defeating the boss monster found at the end of a Stage. Uncommon (green) gear has the highest likelihood of dropping.
- Act Boss Chests: Have a chance to drop after beating an Act Boss found in Stage 10 of any Act. A Task Bar Hero Soulstone is required to defeat them. Rare (blue) gear has the highest chance of dropping from these chests.
- Note that all the above chests have a very low chance to drop Legendary-Grade gear right from the start, but this chance increases slightly as your characters level up, eventually including higher-grade gear such as Immortal and Arcana-grade.
These chests don't appear particularly often, especially since technical issues due to servers and Steam Marketplace have necessitated some drop rate reductions, but you can increase the odds of you getting some with the right Task Bar Hero Runes.
Spend your gold on any Runes of Exploration and Runes of Conquest as each one will slightly increase the drop chance of Common Chests and Stage Boss Chests respectively. You should also get Runes of Containment, Runes of the Vault, and Runes of Infinity to increase the number of Common, Stage Boss, and Act Boss chests you can hold at one time.
With these Runes activated, you can then farm chests in Task Bar Hero by selecting the hardest stage that your party can still consistently succeed at via the Portal and let them run it for a while – make sure you've got a good Task Bar Hero build for this. Doing so means your adventurers will be killing lots of monsters and regularly facing Stage Bosses to maximize their odds of getting Common and Stage Boss Chests.
Keep the game running, as you can't earn chests while offline, and you should eventually amass plenty of weapons and armor to outfit your party and substantially bolster their power – take a look at this Task Bar Hero tier list to see who is deserving of the best items. Any spare or useless gear should be turned into Gold to fund more Runes or combined using Synthesis to create even better loot, all via the Cube menu.
