Best Mortal Shell 2 Seals
You can equip any one of your Mortal Shell 2 Seals at a time, with each granting a unique guard ability during combat
There are only two Mortal Shell 2 Seals available during the open beta, so I'll explore both here, including which you should use. I'll then update this guide with a full list once the full Mortal Shell 2 release date arrives.
These Seals are just a drop in the ocean of your full Mortal Shell 2 build options, but they're arguably among the most important items, and have certainly saved me from death more than a handful of times. Looking at the two from the beta, it seems these items are purely defensive, but we'll see if that changes when we get the full list.
Best Mortal Shell 2 Seals
The best Mortal Shell 2 Seal in the beta is the Untarnished Seal, obtained by default at the end of the festival.
You'll get both beta Seals as part of the story, so you can't miss either one. The second is Vatra's Seal, granted for 'defeating' the Mortal Shell 2 Tar Golem at the end of the prologue.
In reality, both Seals are very close in power and ability, with each blocking incoming attacks. However, the Untarnished Seal (similar to the Tarnished Seal from the original Mortal Shell) is slightly superior as it's able to defend from more attacks at once, and doesn't break as easily. You can clearly see when your guard is about to fall from the golden bar in the center of the screen.
This is all much harder to judge with the Harden ability, and it also doesn't seem to deflect as many attacks, especially when against multiple enemies at once.
The best (and most satisfying) use for these Seals is performing a Perfect Guard, which allows you not only to deal more subsequent damage to the enemy during your riposte, but also plays out some pretty cool and gory animations in doing so. Just remember there are some attacks that can't be blocked, though, so you'll need to dodge sometimes, too.
Make sure you have the best Mortal Shell 2 Tarstones equipped alongside your Seal to make the most out of your build, and look out for the Mushroom Village key to pick up a new set of weapons.

After studying Music and Lifestyle journalism and writing a column for a stylish lifestyle magazine in her hometown of Brighton, Danielle finally found her feet writing about videogames for WePC in 2021. She then honed her guides writing skills at PCGamesN between 2022 and 2026, when she took those skills to GamesRadar as a Guides Writer. Danielle's guides are a safe space - she definitely got stuck before you did, which is why she's perfect for the job. When she's not replaying the Silent Hill games or a more up-to-date single-player horror game, you'll find her fighting for her life in Dead by Daylight, tending to a garden in Stardew Valley, or doing both in Minecraft.
