Is Gears of War E-Day on PS5?
Will you be able to play the new Gears of War on PlayStation 5?
Will Gears of War E-Day be on PS5 at launch, and if not, is that liable to change any time in the future? The new Gears of War prequel has captured attention since it was announced, but right now Xbox-owned games and their ports have a somewhat on-and-off relation with PlayStation 5, making it hard to know off-hand. Below I'll lay out the details and explain what you can play E-Day on.
Will Gears of War E-Day be on PS5?
No, there will NOT be a PS5 port of Gears of War E-Day, according to current information given to us by Microsoft.
The current plan is for E-Day to be an Xbox exclusive, playable only on the Series X/S and PC. While at some point in the past it appeared as though Microsoft was considering a PlayStation port, that appears to have changed in the wake of variously changing business strategies at Xbox.
This might come as a surprise to some, as recent Xbox games have had a habit of making it to PlayStation sooner or later, with recent years giving us PS5 ports of Starfield, Sea of Thieves, and the upcoming Fable game still planned for simultaneous releases on both consoles. However, Xbox appears to be reconsidering which games it makes ports of, at least when it comes to launch day.
It's possible that we may see a later port of E-Day to PS5 in the future, but there's no guarantee of that, and it certainly won't be at launch day according to current information. If you're determined to see the historic moment where a chainsaw was duct-taped to a machine gun as soon as possible, you'll need access to an Xbox or Gaming PC.
