Dark Souls fans got this one right: new Soulslike where you play as a Sif-coded dog with a sword is now and forever "Bark Souls"
Stray Dog: Nobody Cares is perfect for FromSoftware fans
With FromSoftware's ever-growing legendary library of Souls games, it's not surprising that other developers are taking a crack at the action-packed genre – but this new Soulslike about a stray dog journeying to save his rescuer might just take the cake as the most precious.
If you've played Dark Souls, then you likely know (and love, because how could you not?) Great Grey Wolf Sif, the boss who faithfully guards the grave of Artorias the Abysswalker – and wields his huge greatsword, too. It's an encounter that sticks with you… but have you ever considered playing as Sif yourself?
Well, Stray Dog: Nobody Cares, a new game from Indie dev Parry Frames Studio, basically lets you do just that.
Although it's not officially Sif or Dark Souls-affiliated, the vibes are impossible to ignore. As per the game's page over on Steam, it places you in the paws of a stray dog that was rescued by a "disgraced knight" (already giving FromSoft vibes, eh?) who is on a journey to rescue said knight following his capture.
In the canine's mouth is a greatsword, of course, which you wield throughout the fantastical medieval-era game.
The world's first "dog" soulslike has been announced, where you play as a stray dog- Parry, backstab, deathblow- Rescue the knight who took you in- Everyone sees you as roadside trash- Brutal boss fightsGame is Stray Dog: nobody cares pic.twitter.com/BPClSU7Ey1August 20, 2026
As per Parry Frames Studio, you can expect all of the Soulslike essentials: "stealth kills, custom levels, precise parries, brutal boss fights," and you name it. I'm sold, personally, and I'm not alone – reactions online show that folks can't get enough.
On Twitter, fans are pulling out all of the best puns to boot. My favorite? "Bark Souls." Bark Souls, indeed. The general excitement is nice to see, too, especially with all of the Sif comparisons.
"Bruh, a Sif origins story (it's not really)," as one reads. "I'm sold." Another chimes in, "We can play as Sif?!" And, similarly, a fan exclaims, "Sooo… basically playing the story of Sif?" I can't even argue that, honestly – Stray Dog looks, well, like it's just that. A spin-off Sif-themed game or something.
Here's hoping that Parry Frames Studio gives us a more solid release date or window soon.

After spending years with her head in various fantastical realms' clouds, Anna studied English Literature and then Medieval History at the University of Edinburgh, going on to specialize in narrative design and video game journalism as a writer. She has written for various publications since her postgraduate studies, including Dexerto, Fanbyte, GameSpot, IGN, PCGamesN, and more. When she's not frantically trying to form words into coherent sentences, she's probably daydreaming about becoming a fairy druid and befriending every animal or she's spending a thousand (more) hours traversing the Underdark in Baldur's Gate 3. If you spot her away from her PC, you'll always find Anna with a fantasy book, a handheld video game console of some sort, and a Tamagotchi or two on hand.
