Unlike in many previous Lego games, where the cast of playable characters was much larger, in Legacy of the Dark Knight the choice has been made to scale down the usual crowd of personalities to a smaller one, in order to give each character a greater degree of depth, with unique Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight skills for each member of the Bat-family, as laid out at the attached guide.
However, all characters have certain shared skills and abilities necessary for traversal and basic gameplay. Every character has access to:
- Grapnel Hook
- Gliding
- Vehicle Summoning (vehicles varied according to character)
- Gold Skill Brick upgrades
Certain powers are also unlocked at specific story moments. For example, Batman unlocks an explosive spray that can be used to destroy certain walls and objects, an upgrade that no other character gets.
Batman
Batman appears to have the largest skill tree in the game (unsurprisingly), as well as the greatest assortment of Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight suits to unlock.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
- Unique abilities
- Batarang: Throwable projectile that can be used to damage enemies, distract people, shut down cameras, hit buttons, or break objects from a distance.
- Batclaw: Grapple hook that can be used to pull enemies and objects towards you.
Jim Gordon
Perhaps the most surprising addition to the cast of heroes, Jim Gordon tags along as one of the earliest unlockable characters.
- Unique abilities
- Foam Sprayer: A gun that launches blobs of sticky foam that hold enemies temporarily in place or gum up mechanisms.
- Rebound Launcher: A gun that fires projectiles that bounce between targets.
Catwoman
Selena Kyle's skillset is arguably a little more geared towards stealth and puzzle solving (which makes sense), though she's still perfectly capable of combat.
- Unique abilities
- Whip: A ranged attack that can be used to stun and spin enemies around, as well as to trigger certain kinds of mechanism.
- Call Kitty: Allows Catwoman to summon cats that can be used either to attack enemies, or can be controlled directly, similar to drones. Cats can go through small vents and access areas other characters can't get to.
Robin
The Boy Wonder is here, specifically Dick Grayson, the original and first Robin. Later characters to hold the mantle of Robin, like Tim Drake or Damian Wayne, are not currently present as playable characters.
- Unique abilities
- Birdarang: A ranged attack that can target multiple targets or enemies at once, bouncing between them in quick succession.
- Cable Launcher: Fire a cable that attaches between two points. Can be used to slam enemies together, or to create cables between tether points that Robin and other characters can walk along.
Batgirl
Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon, has an emphasis on programming and hacking, which makes sense considering she's also famous for being the technical wiz Oracle in the comics.
- Unique abilities
- Hackarang: A modified Batarang that can be used to hack machinery and security systems, as well as just hit people and enemies.
- Drone: A flying drone that can be used to access certain areas. It can also be used as a grapple point and perch by characters, and upgraded to function in combat.
Nightwing
Nightwing is the older, more experienced Dick Grayson. His powers are basically the same as Robin's, but with the addition of an electrical current that can have certain effects.
- Unique abilities
- Electrorang: An electrified throwable projectile that can strike multiple enemies and fry them.
- Electric Cable Launcher: A device that can link two points or enemies with a cable, either creating high wires to walk along or to slam enemies together. An additional electric current can be used to reroute power, connecting devices to power sources.
Talia al Ghul
Daughter of Ra's al Ghul and frequent leader of the League of Shadows, Talia al Ghul is the final character unlocked in Lego Batman Legacy, though she appears as a non-playable support NPC during certain missions prior to that point.
- Unique abilities
- Blowdarts: Ranged sleep darts that leave enemies temporarily unconscious.
- Ninja Dash: A short range teleport that can be upgraded with various stealth-enhancing abilities.
