All playable characters in Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight
There are seven minifigure characters in Lego Batman LotDK to unlock, and two more coming
There are seven characters in Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight, representing some of the most major characters in the Batman mythos. We got a chance to play Lego Batman Legacy in advance of its release, have tried a lot of the characters and confirmed the ones to come, both in gameplay experiences and interviews with the development team. If you want to know more of what's coming down the road, here's every playable character and what we know about them.
Every character in Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight
There will be seven playable characters when Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight launches on May 22, 2026. They are:
- Batman
- Commissioner Jim Gordon
- Catwoman
- Robin
- Batgirl
- Nightwing
- Talia al Ghul
These characters also appear to be unlocked in that very order through progression in the main story, according to a look we got at the in-game character menu. Unlike in many previous Lego games, where the cast of playable characters was much larger, in Legacy of the Dark Knight the choice has been made to pare down the usual crowd of personalities to a smaller one, in order to give each character a greater degree of depth, with more unique abilities and skill trees.

- Grapnel Hook
- Gliding
- Vehicle Summoning (vehicles varied according to character)
Batman
Batman appears to have the largest skill tree in the game (unsurprisingly), as well as the greatest assortment of costumes and outfits to unlock.
- Unique abilities
- Batarang: Throwable projectile that can be used to damage enemies, distract people, shut down cameras, hit buttons, or break objects from a distance.
- Batclaw: Grapple hook that can be used to pull enemies and objects towards you.
Commissioner Jim Gordon
Perhaps the most surprising addition to the cast of heroes, Jim Gordon tags along as one of the earliest unlockable characters.
- Unique abilities
- Foam Sprayer: A gun that launches blobs of sticky foam that hold enemies temporarily in place or gum up mechanisms.
- Rebound Launcher: A gun that fires projectiles that bounce between targets.
Catwoman
Selina Kyle's skillset is arguably a little more geared towards stealth and puzzle solving (which makes sense), though she's still perfectly capable of combat.

- Unique abilities
- Whip: A ranged attack that can be used to stun and spin enemies around, as well as to trigger certain kinds of mechanism.
- Call Kitty: Allows Catwoman to summon cats that can be used either to attack enemies, or can be controlled directly, similar to drones. Cats can go through small vents and access areas other characters can't get to.
Robin
The Boy Wonder first appears as Dick Grayson, though having not played the full game yet, it's possible that other characters will wear the mask later on, such as Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Jason Todd, or Stephanie Brown.
- Unique abilities
- Birdarang: A ranged attack that can target multiple targets or enemies at once, bouncing between them in quick succession.
- Cable Launcher: Fire a cable that attaches between two points. Can be used to slam enemies together, or to create cables between tether points that Robin and other characters can walk along.
Batgirl
Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon, is confirmed as a playable character. We didn't get a chance to play her, but the character's history (especially her time as Oracle) suggests that she may have an emphasis on hacking and reconnaissance.
Nightwing
The title claimed by Dick Grayson after his time as Robin comes to an end, Nightwing is shown armed with a pair of Ecrisma Sticks. The character's traditionally acrobatic style means that there may be some traversal abilities to the character, though that's speculative.
Talia al Ghul
Daughter of Ra's al Ghul and frequent leader of the League of Assassins, Talia al Ghul looks like she may be the last character unlocked in Legacy of the Dark Knight. The character's more deadly history implies that this will be a figure suited more to combat or stealth.
Future and upcoming characters for Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight
In an interview with Jimmy Sedota, Assistant Design Director at TT Games, he confirmed that The Joker and Harley Quinn would be playable characters added in DLC coming out in September 2026, though it wasn't stated what their abilities would be or if there's other characters we can expect further on in the future beyond that.
