The Boys season 5 episode 7 features "one of the saddest moments" so far – and fans think it sets up the finale's big twist
Spoiler alert! The stakes have never been higher on The Boys
The Boys season 5 episode 7 marks the penultimate episode of the superhero show, and not everyone makes it out alive. Fans have been reacting to the latest casualty in the Prime Video series with some calling it "one of the saddest moments in the series".
As you might expect, we're about to get into pretty huge spoilers here so make sure you've seen 'The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk' before reading on.
At the end of episode 7, Frenchie sacrificed himself in a heroic moment to save Kimiko. The beloved member of The Boys hid his "coeur" in a zinc locker with Sister Sage when Homelander descended on their hideout. Just as Homelander was about to find them, Frenchie softly tapped on the metal of where he was hiding in the uranium shelter.
Homelander descended on him as he tried to find the location of Sage, before turning on the machine to kill Frenchie. After the blonde Supe flew away, Frenchie slowly bled out on the floor in Kimiko's arms as The Boys looked on. If that wasn't sad enough, the song that Frenchie sang to Kimiko back in season 3 then plays over the credits. RIP Serge.
It's another major death in the final season of the superhero show and one that has left fans reeling. Reacting on X, many have called it a brutal reminder of how few of the characters might make it out of The Boys alive.
"Frenchie sacrificed himself, and as he lay near death, Kimiko held him crying. One of the saddest moments in the series, The Boys are now one member short, and everyone’s broken by it," wrote one.
Another added: "Well, if Sage didn’t know what love was before, seeing Frenchie sacrifice himself to protect [her] and Kimiko will have taught her. Sadly, his death was extremely predictable given all the flags with [him] and Kimiko talking about starting a family and settling down."

A third loved Frenchie's final words to Homelander, where he told him, "I bet you never danced a day in your life." They commented: "That smile on Homelander is terrifying. This scene between him & Frenchie gave me chills. Like I said before, the series needed a big death to remind us of the stakes leading into the finale, & Frenchie was a worthy sacrifice."
Others have been wondering if the big death may be setting up the events of the series finale. The other big storyline in the penultimate episode revolved around Kimiko getting blasted with uranium to give her the same powers as Soldier Boy. Could she kill Homelander to avenge Frenchie?
Another viewer predicted just that, suggesting: "Frenchie died by saving Kimiko from Homelander. They are so gonna make Kimiko kill Homelander since she got the Soldier Boy powers."
Well, with just one more episode to go, it won't be long before we find out. The series finale will be shown live in theaters across the US, and you can check out our The Boys season 5 release schedule to see when it's on streaming, too.
