Supernatural fans agree that the long-awaited reunion was upstaged by all those surprise actor cameos in The Boys season 5 episode 5
Destiel shippers... we won for about five whole seconds
That long-awaited Supernatural reunion finally happened in The Boys season 5 episode 5, but so did a Super Bad and This is the End reunion.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for The Boys season 5 episode 5!
In the new episode, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins all appeared together on screen for the first time since Supernatural ended six years ago. Padalecki played ex-Seven member Mister Marathon, who was once the fastest man in the world, with Collins as Malchemical, who possesses the ability to emit noxious gas from his mouth (though he's a shapeshifter in the comics). We don't get to see him for too long before Soldier snaps his neck, anyway. Oh, and he and Homelander kind of team up father-and-son style and kill Mister Marathon.
Article continues belowIn case you aren't familiar, Eric Kripke, creator of The Boys, is also the creator of Supernatural – a fantasy drama (in a similar vein as Buffy the Vampire Slayer) in which Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Ackles) Winchester slay a variety of paranormal evils, all while aided by an angel named Castiel (Collins). The reunion even included Padalecki's character saying, "So get this," which is Sam's signature catchphrase (and maybe I cried a little, so what?)
And this would've been super cool and super memorable all on its own if Seth Rogen, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Will Forte, Craig Robinson, and Kumail Nanjiani hadn't shown up to play poker downstairs in Marathon's house, while also name-dropping Michael Cera, Bill Hader, and Meryl Streep.
Some fans thought the Supernatural reunion was followed by Rogen and co. being celebrity canon to the overall VCU was too much to take in at once (and overshadowed our boys).
"Damn, the nostalgia bait from Supernatural has stopped working on me already," one Supernatural fan account wrote.

"I fear seeing Seth Rogen, Chris Mintz Plasse, Will Forte, Kumail Nanjiani, and Craig Robinson meant more to me than the Supernatural reunion on The Boys," said one fan.
"I just watched Soldier Boy kill his brother in Supernatural, along with Seth Rogen and that fucking McLovin, in less than 5 minutes," said another.
"Yeah yeah yeah, Supernatural reunion, whatever sure... WILL FORTE??? KUMAIL NANJIANI??? SETH ROGEN??? CHRISTOPHER MINTZ-PLASSE??? CRAIG ROBINSON???" wrote another.
"Who gives a fuck about a supernatural reunion when my goats Seth Rogen and McLovin are there getting a whole B-plot for themselves," someone else said.
Funnily enough, the cameos coincide with some upcoming films: Forte and Kumail Nanjiani star in Eric Appel's The Breadwinner, and Rogen and Nanjiani star alongside Kristen Stewart in Dylan Meyer's directorial debut, The Wrong Girls (both of which are out this year). Seth Rogen is also an executive producer of The Boys, so a cameo in the final season does make perfect sense.
We did get a brief Destiel moment (if you know, you know), and that's good enough for me.
