Star Wars fans double down on call to bring back canceled show after it briefly returns to Disney Plus' top 10

The fan campaign for The Acolyte is reignited after the canceled Disney Plus briefly reemerged in the streaming platform's top 10 most viewed shows.

According to Comic Book, on April 22, it ranked in the number nine spot, according to Flix Patrol, which tracks streaming figures on all platforms. It joined another Star Wars show in the ranking too, Maul – Shadow Lord.

Set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, the eight-part series followed Jedi Master Sol (Squid Game's Lee Jung-jae) as he investigated a mysterious series of crimes. Amandla Stenberg starred as his former Padawan alongside Manny Jacinto as The Stranger. It had generally positive reviews when it was first released but Disney canceled the show based on viewership figures.

Ever since its cancelation, fans have been rallying for Disney to reverse its decision. The hashtag "RenewTheAcolyte" often trends on X, with increased calls over the past week following its resurgence. "Shouldn’t have been canceled, give me my show back," wrote one, as another added that it had "such a great story and memorable characters" and "deserves to be continued".

"The fact is that, revisiting The Acolyte after nearly 2 years, it became clear that the series features the best lightsaber battle ever made in live action," a third wrote. "It truly deserved a 2nd season."

However, there might be another reason for its renewed popularity on Disney Plus. New animated show Maul – Shadow Lord is currently airing and features an auto-play function after each new episode for The Acolyte. This could be why the show is getting attention once again, two years on.
