Avengers: Endgame re-release will include Doomsday footage and be a "critical companion story"
Footage from Avengers: Doomsday will feature in the upcoming Endgame re-release
Five years after it first debuted in theaters, Avengers: Endgame is getting a re-release – and a new version of the movie is hitting the big screen, featuring brand-new footage from Avengers: Doomsday.
"It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame," co-director Joe Russo said during an appearance at Sands Film Festival (via Deadline).
"It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way, and because the movie was so successful, we have an opportunity to re-release it," he continued. "You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It’s a really unique opportunity."
Russo added that the re-release was a "critical companion story" and a "setup for what you’re gonna watch in December when you see Avengers Doomsday."
Just what that footage might entail remains vague for now, though. As the re-release is set to be released almost three months before Doomsday, this might be our best chance yet to get a glimpse of the highly anticipated MCU crossover event, though.
Avengers: Endgame will be re-released on September 25, while Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18. For more on Marvel Phase 6, check out our guide to the other upcoming Marvel movies and shows on the way.
