Simon Kinberg teases possibility of X-Men / Fantastic Four crossover

Simon Kinberg has been discussing the forthcoming Fantastic Four reboot with EW, and has hinted that the franchise’s future might lie in a potential X-Men crossover.

“The reboot of ‘FanFour’ really needed to work in and of itself,” says Kinberg, explaining that a crossover was never likely for the first in the new series. “We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie.”

However, said crossover could certainly be an option further down the track…“If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could,” says Kinberg. “There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”

Kinberg also noted that Toby Kebbell’s Doom will be a key component to the first film’s potential success, suggesting that his arc will be every bit as engaging as that of the nascent super-team.

“He has aspirations and struggles that are a little bit more classically tragic than the other characters,” explains the producer. “As much as it’s an origin story of our heroes, it also tracks how someone can become a villain.”

Directed by Josh Trank and co-starring Jamie Bell, Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan, Fantastic Four will open in the UK on 6 August 2015, and the US on the following day.
