Prequel to The Shining gets a name and a writer

The first details have emerged online regarding Warner Bros' forthcoming prequel to The Shining , with the film now operating under the official title The Overlook Hotel .

Not only does the project now have a new name, but it also has a new writer in the form of The Walking Dead 's Glen Mazzara, who has been tapped by the studio to get to work on a first draft of the screenplay.

At present we don't have anything in the way of story details, but given the Overlook's colourful history and its bountiful array of ghostly residents, there should be plenty for Mazzara to work with.

The news arrives at a time when The Shining is enjoying something of a renaissance, what with the film's recent re-release (alongside fan-theory movie Room 237 ) and Stephen King's sequel, Doctor Sleep , set to arrive later in the year.

No rumours have reached our ears as to who might direct or star, but with things seemingly in motion over at Warner, expect that to change in the not too distant future.
