Zombie survival game H1Z1 coming to consoles as PvP shooter, King of the Kill

If you're a fan of open-world, multiplayer survival games, you've probably heard of the undead apocalypse-flavored H1Z1 from Daybreak - formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment. Much like a zombie virus mutating into ever more virulent strains, that game has split into two unique entities: H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill.

As you might have surmised from the punny title that sounds like it came from a Halo multiplayer match, King of the Kill is a competitive shooter where your goal is to un-alive everybody before they can do the same to you. In Just Survive, you, uh ... just survive. Daybreak says that the split is due to fan feedback, and that each version of H1Z1 will get its own, dedicated development team - no more splitting resources.

"Through in-game feedback, as well as discussions on Reddit, Steam, and Twitter, our community has been influential to us in arriving at this decision," reads a news post announcing the decision. "The H1Z1 family is growing, and we can’t wait to see what is in store for the H1Z1 franchise in the future."

H1Z1: King of the Kill is slated to hit PS4 and Xbox One this summer. H1Z1: Just Survive is also planned to come to console, though Daybreak says those details will come at a later date.
