Last year, Rockstar Games sent GTA Online players on a wild goose hunt for the Double-Action Revolver, a new weapon inspired by its other critically acclaimed open world series, Red Dead Redemption, in anticipation of the release of its upcoming sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Now, after data miners recently uncovered the existence of another, new GTA Online weapon from the world of Rockstar's wild west, following the game's After Hours update earlier this week, the Stone Hatchet has been officially released into Los Santos' multiplayer sandbox, and is accessible upon completing the steps outlined in our guide below.

Getting 25 kills with the Stone Hatchet will reward players with $250,000 in-game dollars, and unlock the weapon exclusively for those who play Red Dead Redemption 2, once that game launches on October 26, so this is definitely a secret worth uncovering. Our full video walkthrough (above) offers a good visual reference on how and where to find the Stone Hatchet, but you're more of a reader than a watcher, here's a general description of what's needed to unlock it.
After logging in to GTA Online, Maude will text you with five random locations for various bounty targets, each of which has a general radius in which you'll need to find and kill (or capture) them. Following that, she'll send you the coordinates for the Stone Hatchet, which is found in a lockbox in a randomised location, similar to how players found the Revolver last year.
The community are now wondering whether Rockstar Games has inserted another cross-promotional weapon for Red Dead Redemption 2 into GTA Online to generate buzz in anticipation of a new trailer. The Revolver came out quite a few months before another Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer last year, so history suggests otherwise, but the game is coming out in less than three months time, and we still haven't seen any gameplay.... Come on, Rockstar, make my day!
