FIFA 21 stadiums guide: six new stadiums include Mallorca and (at last!) Leeds

Huge news on the FIFA 21 stadiums front: Leeds United's Elland Road is finally in the game. FIFA 21 was the first series entry in half a decade to launch with a Premier League ground missing, and EA said it would be patched in at a later date. That date was mid-February, although there is a caveat: as I write this it's playable in exhibition, but not career mode or Ultimate Team. Gah. Which other new grounds are in? Providence Park (Portland Timbers)

The sole new addition to the MLS stadium set ahead of FIFA 21 plays host to the Portland Timbers. It's the oldest pro soccer stadium still active in the US, with its debut match taking place in 1893, and its first use as a true stadium dating back to 1926. While most FIFA 20 players considered TIFOs to be a nonsense, Providence Park is famed for showcasing some of the most elaborate in Stateside sports.

Stadion An der Alten Försterei (Union Berlin)

Just four Bundesliga clubs started the 2019-20 season missing their official stadium in FIFA 20. The best known (Bayern Munich) has an exclusive deal with PES 2021, leaving Freiberg, Paderborn, and Union Berlin as the missing trio. However, Freiberg are moving to a new stadium next year, and Paderborn were relegated – making Union's picturesque 22,012-capacity ground the lone Bundesliga addition in FIFA 21.

Benteler-Arena (SC Paderborn)

Minnows Paderborn may have been relegated from the German top flight at the end of 2019/20, but there is some good news for the North Rhine club. The 12-year-old Benteler-Arena finally takes its FIFA bow, and if career mode is accurate it will actually belong to two clubs in FIFA 21. SC Verl won promotion to 3 Liga ahead of this season, but their home stadium doesn't meet the competition's ground requirements – so they'll spend the campaign playing home matches here too.

Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes (Granada)

A FIFA series debut is quite the way for Granada's home ground to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Not that the home side participated in its first match: that was a friendly between Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, which saw Real run out 1-0 victors. The Spanish national side has played four official matches here, most recently beating Macedonia 4-0 in a qualifier for the 2018 World Cup.

Visit Mallorca Stadium (RCD Mallorca)

Prepare to party long into the night: Mallorca is the first stadium from the Balearic Islands to appear in the FIFA series, drawing level at 1-1 with the Canary Islands – they've had UCD Las Palmas' home turf represented digitally since FIFA 19. Previously known as Estadi de Son Moix, it was renamed earlier this year in the hope of bringing tourism back to the island if and when the coronavirus pandemic eases.

Elland Road (Leeds United)

Every Premier League stadium has featured in EA’s footy sim going back to FIFA 15, with Bramall Lane (Sheffield United) the single new inclusion last year. However, Leeds United’s promotion in June occurred too late for Elland Road to make FIFA 21’s 9 October release date. "We are committed to giving fans the chance to play in all 20 Premier League stadiums and will provide more news on post-launch updates in the future," says EA. That news came in February, when Elland Road was finally added for exhibition games. Now we just need it in career mode and Ultimate Team, and all will be well again.
